Yaacov Bergman, conductor

Yaacov Bergman manages an active schedule as Music Director and guest conductor on four continents. He serves in the former capacity with the Portland Chamber orchestra, the Walla Walla Symphony, the Moscow (ID) Summer Rendezvous Chamber Players, and the Sound Waves Summer Music Festival on the Oregon coast. In addition he continues as principal conductor of the Burgos Music Festival in Spain.

In Spring 2010 he led a successful tour of Israel National Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra.

He has guest conducted such prominent orchestras as the Buffalo and Brooklyn Philharmonics, the San Diego Symphony and the orchestras of Vancouver, Edmonton and Kitchener-Waterloo in Canada.

His 1996 success with the Osaka Opera’s production of Verdi’s Macbeth led to subsequent performances of other major operas in Osaka and Kobe, as well as symphonic concerts with the Osaka Symphonica. His European credits include the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra orchestras in Poland, Spain and throughout the continent. His series of concerts in Cairo in 1995 and 1996 were the first by an American/Israeli conductor in any Arab republic.

His interest in commissioning new works and performing the works of living composers has been a hallmark of his career.
