Bach Aria Group

The Bach Aria Group holds the unique distinction of being the only musical organizations in the world whose sole charter is to promote the performance and study of the music of Bach. Founded in 1946 by musicologist William Scheide, the Bach Aria Group was created to help combat the lack of awareness and appreciation of Bach' s marvelous cantata literature. Scheide formed a 9-member ensemble, and the Group began to fulfill its mission by touring and developing Bach audiences throughout the world. The group was led by flutist Samuel Baron from 1980 until his death in 1997, and is now operating as a musicians' collective by its current members, which include two members of the Orion String Quartet. The Bach Aria Group led the Bach Aria Festival and Institute from 1981 to 1996, where talented musicians and students receive coaching from Group members and perform in concert with the Bach Aria Group. The Group is one of the longest running chamber music organization in the United States.
